Islamabad: A high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, was held to discuss the promotion of electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan. During the meeting, it was announced that the cost per unit for charging electric vehicles has been reduced from Rs. 71 to Rs. 39.70. This significant reduction is expected to lower travel expenses by up to three times compared to petrol and other fuel options.
The Power Division highlighted the introduction of a special 44% discounted tariff for EVs, terming it a historic initiative. “This special tariff package for EVs will not only save foreign exchange spent on the import of petrol and diesel but also provide eco-friendly travel options,” a representative stated.
In a related development, 27 eco-friendly buses have arrived at Karachi Port and will be operational on the streets of Lahore starting January 31, marking another step toward sustainable urban transportation.
This initiative reflects the government's commitment to promoting green technology and reducing the country's reliance on fossil fuels.
